Staying Sane as a Developer in the "Age of AI"
There's a lot of horsecrap being spewed all over the internet about game devs being replaced with AI. I firmly believe the best way to stay sane in an environment full of lies is to cling to the truth. This post is a one-stop-shop for all the creators that have helped me stay sane in the age of AI hype. These are developers that encourage people to create instead of prompt.
1. Jonathan Blow
Creator of Braid, The Witness, and Order of the Sinking Star. He's one of the best game programmers on Earth. His YouTube channel has videos about 3D graphics, problems with popular languages and engines, and advice for becoming a better game programmer.
2. Casey Muratori/Molly Rocket
Creator of the Granny 3D animation program, and the incredible Handmade Hero game engine programming guide. He is a vocal critic of slow software, object-oriented programming, and programming dogmas. He has made me question everything I know about what good software is and how to make it. He also has a podcast about wading through AI
3. The Graphics Guy
Graphics programming teacher with a background in math. His YouTube channel has series on software rendering, math for game devs, and shader programming. He's got resources for every graphics API you could think of.
4. Brett Codes
Programming author and enthusiast who cares about quality software. His website has resources for programmers to improve their skills. His video about quitting AI programming for good is what inspired me to make this blog post.
If you ever find yourself questioning whether it's worth it to make quality software in a market that's flooded with AI slop, this page is here for you.
